All over Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, and basically all social media I see posts about the "Squat Challenge." If you haven't seen it, it is 30 days of squats, increasing your reps everyday. It promises people that they will have a nice, toned, bikini-ready butt in just 30 days. IT LIES!
The problem with this challenge is that it plays with everyone's desire for instant gratification. Newsflash, that amazing ass that is included within the challenge picture wasn't transformed in just 30 days. Honestly, in this day and age, I wouldn't be surprised if that booty was nothing but Photoshop.
Here's the thing, working the same muscles, the same way, day after day, can and will damage your body. Both Maddi and I, before becoming knowledgeable about exercise, attempted the squat challenge. Unfortunately for Maddi, she took it a lot more seriously than me and ended up completely tearing her hamstring. I'm guessing that hurt more than a bit. She is not alone, however. Everyday people are injured working the same muscle group over and over. This is why having days dedicated to arms or legs is very important. Rest days are also necessary due to the way muscles grow. (If you're interested in the science behind muscle grow th click here.) Why people hate the idea of rest days is beyond me. THEY ARE NECESSARY!
Exercise is not a "6 Minutes until a 6-Pack" or a 30-day squat challenge. Results aren't obtained after a month. It takes months of hard work and eating right to see major changes to your body. I know taking short cuts is tempting but don't sell yourself short when it comes to a healthy lifestyle! Love yourself enough to sweat it out and work hard for what you want. I (Kelly) have the smallest ass in the world but I'm working everyday to make it better. Well, every other day.
